Attack on anything Green

One of our friends has been writing green movement slogans on the wall overlooking the Hammett highway. The Green Graffiti can be easily seen from the highway.

However, something goes wrong.  Everyday the Green Graffiti is being painted over with white by the Basij Propaganda Unit and our friend has to re-write next day.

To avoid this daily task, our friend decided to lower the rhetoric’s from “Murderous (Supreme) Leader” shown above to something milder. It did not work, even the words Allahu Akbar (God is Great) were being painted over. So our friend decided to consult with a former Basiji who served at the front for many years during IranIraq war.

Before go any further you need to learn a bit Farsi. “Zereshk” is a small dried sour berry used in Persian dishes and requires thorough hand cleaning before it can be used. As slang, is a response to any unsubstantiated and over exaggerated claim (we don’t believe it - go fool someone else).

So our friend asks the Basiji in which unit he used to serve in front and he responded “Basij Propaganda Unit”. Then our friend asked what his responsibility was. The Basiji replied “I was in charge of cleaning Zereshk”. Our friend giggled and said “so you were working in the kitchen… the kitchen Unit?”

No, Basij Propaganda Unit, Basiji continued. Those days we had signs in front to show the distance to our target destination. For example there was a sign that indicated “only 800 Km to Karbala” a major city in Iraq. But every night soldiers write under the sign “Zereshk”, I was in charge of cleaning Zereshk.

Our friend concluded that the early days of revolution Basijis were cleaning Zereshk. Now the current Iranian regime can be proud of training Basijis who are cleaning Allahu Akbar (God is Great) from Iranian walls. They can not even stand Allahu Akbar if it is painted in Green.
